Prune Board Flushes Arkansas Man's Claims Of Making 'Champagne De Pruneau'

PARIS, Ark. (Wireless Flash) -- Arkansas-based beverage marketer Richard Davis is flushed with excitement over his latest idea: making champagne out of prunes.

Davis claims he's already made a few test batches of the so-called "Champagne de Pruneau" to be served on cruise ships as a more luxurious method of enjoying the laxative effects of prunes.

He says he's making the wine to promote prunes -- which are now know known as dried plums -- for the California Dried Plum Board.

However, there are some pits in Davis' story: The California Dried Plum Board says they've never heard of Davis' prune champagne promotion plan -- much less anyone who makes prune champagne.

What's more, the supposed supplier of prune juice for the wine, Valley View Packing, says the company is not supplying juice to anyone making prune champagne at this time.

The final wrinkle may be Davis' own inconsistencies: After first saying prune champagne is made from fermenting whole prunes, Davis later claimed it was made from prune concentrate.
